Something amazing happened this week…
I finished my clinical rotations!
It is crazy to think that I started my very first clinical rotation on June 10th and now I am *finally* done. It feels awesome!
If you’ve been following along then you already know that I have spent the last 3 weeks doing outpatient nutrition counseling. I really loved this rotation. I have heard that during your internship you find an area that you completely fall in love with and this is exactly how I felt with outpatient. It is supposedly hard to get your foot in the door for an outpatient job but I would love to work in this area later on down the road if the opportunity ever presented itself.
Next week I will start my 4-week community rotation with WIC. This will be my final rotation. Yes, that’s right, I will completely finish my entire internship in 4 WEEKS!
It is fun to look at this ^ and realize all of the different things I have experienced in the past 5 months.
I actually was able to finish up my OPC rotation on Thursday and we had a surgical consult for Lily yesterday morning. After my last post, we ended up checking with 3 different orthopedic surgeons and speaking with the vet who does surgery in our vet’s office. After a lot of thought and consideration of all factors, we decided to get the surgery done at our vet’s office. I completely trust the vet and will feel more comfortable doing all of the follow-ups with him. Right now Lily has a bacterial infection that we are trying to get rid of and if it clears up, her surgery will be this upcoming week.
We volunteered at the local food back this morning on our ‘job’ today was sorting through potatoes. We threw away bad ones and bagged good ones for distribution. Side note: do you know how disgusting rotting potatoes are? They are squishy, gooey, snotty and smell like dog shit. I thought I was going to be sick… but it was for a good cause, right? :)
After our shift (and washing our hands multiple times), we went out for lunch at Lebowski’s. We’d never eaten there before and I thought the food was just OK. I got a chicken parmesan slider, wings and fries.
I am really looking forward to being at WIC beginning next week to see firsthand how this organization works. I have honestly only heard negative things about this rotation from other interns so I’ll be interested to see how I like it. I’m definitely going into it with an open mind.
Have a great weekend!
