1. More celebrating
Today, my work surprised me with a mini-celebration for passing my RD exam. I had a special hat and lei, and I got pomegranates (some PomPoms and a whole pom). They are my fav fruit :)
2. A healthier 2014
I’m not really into New Year’s resolutions but I’d like to get on the right foot with diet and exercise. I figure now is as better time as any since there is so much motivating stuff going on. I’m actually participating in 3 different things that will hopefully get me on track. I joined a diet bet to lose 4% of my weight in the month of January. I’m honestly not quite sure when I joined this since my goal is not really to lose weight… oh well. I’m participating in Run with Jess’ winter mileage challenge since I’d like to run a 5k this year. Lastly, my work purchased a fitness program and I’m required to participate because I’m on the health advisory board. It is more of a program that guides you with food choices and exercises, but our department turned it into a weight loss contest. I’m just going to use it to keep me accountable.
3. Nutrition blog
I mentioned this in another post but I have been thinking about starting a nutrition blog for a while. It has always been a dream of mine to have my own business or be a nutrition consultant. I really want to create a resource where people can access reliable, simple nutrition information for free. I’m not sure where exactly I want to go with this (I would love to have my own community organization or start a non-profit) but I think having a more business-related blog is a great place to start. I thought about just adding on to this blog but I think it just makes more sense to start a new blog instead. Soooo for the past week I have been trying to brainstorm about things like a name, topic ideas, etc. I think it will take me until February to pull things together so be on the lookout :)
4. New job!
I was offered a position as a clinical dietitian at a local hospital. I’m really excited!! The position is PRN on the weekends and is the perfect opportunity for me to keep up with my clinical skills, earn a little bit of extra cash and get my foot in the door in case I ever want to make the jump to clinical dietetics. I have to go through 2 weeks of orientation and then I will start after that.
5. Recent Eats
I’m cooking more now that I have some free time. Some recent eats from this week include pork chops, beef stew, oven roasted chicken, and black bean soup.
