Happy 4th of July!
So much has been going on… not even sure where to start :)
I guess the biggest news is that about a month ago, I accepted a new job working in clinical dietetics! I am really excited for the change. It was a big decision to leave child nutrition. I had always seen myself working for the state and I am pretty passionate about food insecurity. Ultimately, though, my new job is a great opportunity that will help me grow as a dietitian. I start next week!
Yesterday was my last day with the schools and it was very strange and surreal to think that I may not ever work in that field again. I was in a kitchen on Wednesday and thought to myself- wow, is this the last time I will ever be in a commercial kitchen working? It is bittersweet for sure.
The thing I will miss the most about schools is all of the staff. I really love them. They threw me a surprise party this week and I was very surprised- and touched.
It was pretty great. Another thing is that I received several gifts and they were all things that I truly loved- a gift card to our favorite restaurant, tea accessories, my favorite candy and a gc to one of my favorite stores. I work in a separate office and only visit the schools, so it just made me realize how well we had gotten to know each other. I will really, really miss them.
One thing that had always been hectic about my old job is the busy summer. Helping staff adjust to different schools in summer school is a challenge, we had to plan a manager’s retreat and back-to-school training, all of the bids roll over, nutritionals are updated in the computer system, etc. etc.
Right when I accepted that new job, I jumped at the chance to be able to enjoy a summer vacation. I cannot tell you how amazing it was to (1) take a vacation with K (2) take a vacation without being a student in the middle of classes and (3) not have to worry about anything at work. We had a really great time!! You can read about it over at G&G.
I feel like I am turning the page to a very large and significant chapter in my life. I went back to school with the hopes of one day having new career opportunities… all of the classes, going through match, completing the internship and passing the RD exam were worth it :)
Hope you enjoy your holiday weekend!
