I’m working Tues-Sat this week so yesterday was my day off. Here’s a rundown of how I spent my day…
7:00- Kyle wakes me up and asks if I am still taking my car to be serviced this AM, which is code for, “why are you still asleep?” I tell him I’m getting ready to get up. When he leaves the room, I roll over and go back to sleep.
For the record, my car was supposed to be serviced on Saturday morning but I had to reschedule because the interstate was closed down due to a bad accident. Suddenly I find myself thinking that rescheduling for a morning appointment on my day off was not the best of ideas.
7:40- I wake up for real, roll out of bed, throw on some yoga pants and get ready to leave. Bypass the kitchen because the dealership has the most awesome coffee and snacks ever. Say goodbye to K.
8:00- I’m on the road. Things start out well on i-77 but quickly go to shit. Traffic is backed up 3 miles from my exit. I find that the hold up is construction going on at my exit, which requires 6 police officers to direct traffic. Make a mental note to be thankful that I no longer have to take this interstate to work everyday.
8:40- Finally get to the dealership for my 8:30 appt. Try to gauge whether the service employee is annoyed at my tardiness but I can’t read him. Get all checked in to get several recalls taken care of as well as an oil change and inspection.
8:45- Immediately notice there is no food or snacks in the customer service waiting area. What?? I have nothing with me and I’m starving. Does this make me a craptastic dietitian for not having a back-up breakfast plan? To add insult to injury, they are all out of coffee creamer.
8:55- I realize my pants are covered in lint. At first I’m embarrassed but then I remember that I don’t know any of these people and never come here.
9:00- I turn on my ipad and find that the battery is almost dead. That’s okay, though, because an elderly gentleman has just entered the waiting area and becomes my primary entertainment for the next 1.5 hours. He states he is known as the Frank Sinatra of Europe and that he is currently filming a movie. He asks me if I own a Hyundai (we are in a Hyundai dealership). He strikes up a conversation with every person waiting on their car, and gives everything from career advice to relationship predictions. Don’t worry lady with the brown hair… he thinks your boyfriend will propose to you soon.
10:45- My car is ready. Hallelujah. Time to go find some food (and run errands… but the only thing I care about right now is food).
11:00- Arrive at the 7th Street Public Market downtown. My motivating factor for coming down here is to get another ham & brie sandwich from Local Loaf, but I’m pretending that this is the only location in Charlotte where I can also pick up a few final things I need for my Foodie Penpal package.
My sandwich is a-maz-ing.
11:45- Head to the vet’s office to pick up food for Lily because she’s all out of her hypoallergenic dog food. And yes, among her other problems, she has to have special food.
12:15- Arrive home. We all go for a walk, except for the Lily decides halfway through that she is over walking.
She is the queen B around here so I end up carrying her back home. She immediately stands guard at her food to make sure no one steals it.
12:30- I decide it would be good if I actually showered today so I go and do that. Then I make a bunch of phone calls that I’ve been putting off for over a week, like talking to the car insurance company and our apartment office.
Then I package up my Foodie Penpal stuff to get ready to take to the post office.
Right before I leave, I wonder how we are doing in the grocery department. I open the fridge and just as I suspected, all we have is mostly beer and greek yogurt.
2:00- Head to the post office, which is insanely crowded. Mail off my package, fill my tank up with gas and then get groceries at Aldi and Harris Teeter.
A guy almost runs into me as I am going into Harris Teeter because he’s literally running, and I wonder if he is dealing with some sort of emergency. About a minute later, I see him walking around eating all of the free samples.
3:30- I’m back home now and I’m feeling like a snack. I go with a smoothie made with milk, berries and spinach. I give myself a mental high five for increased calcium intake.
I slice up some apples and stick them in the crockpot to make homemade applesauce later tonight.
Then I fold up my clothes in the dryer and stick a load of towels in the wash. By the way, I hate doing laundry.
5:00- Time to ice the knee, which is not feeling any better. I look for something to watch on the DVR while I’m doing this but the only show saved is the season finale of Grey’s Anatomy. This is a reminder that I’m not ready to delete Cristina Yang from my life forever just yet.
When I’m done icing, I continue with laundry, wash some dishes and check my email.
6:00- K sends me a text letting me know he’s leaving work. He does this every evening because his schedule is unpredictable and this gives me a heads up as to when to expect him home. I start getting things ready for dinner.
6:30- Dinnertime! We are having roasted chicken, herbed rice and broccoli. The roasted chicken was made by Chefs de Harris Teeter.
7:15- K and I clean up from dinner and take the dogs out together. I have to carry Queen B for half of the walk again. I snapped a photo of this but I’m wearing a low cut shirt and deemed the picture too inappropriate to post.
K washes dishes while I blow dry my hair (it has been sitting in a wet bun on top of my hair since my shower…). I set the DVR to record Dancing with the Stars to watch another night. Did you know you can watch an entire 2-hour DWTS show in 1 hr and 15 minutes if fast forward through the commercials, dance troop dances and Tom/Erin commentary? You’re welcome.
8:00- Fold up last load of laundry and think about how it would be awesome to hire someone to do my laundry. The apples are done cooking in the crock pot, so I blend them up to finish making applesauce. I’m really happy I made this from scratch until I realize I now need to wash the blender and crockpot. Damnit.
8:30- Things start winding down for the night and I get things ready for tomorrow morning. I leave for work at 6am, and getting ready the night before is about the only way I can make it out the door on time every morning. I set my clothes in the guest bathroom (I get ready in there so I don’t wake Kyle up).
Get my coffee ready to brew in the morning and successfully locate a travel mug with matching lid.
I pack my breakfast, lunch and afternoon snack. After browsing the fridge, I decide on almonds and a pear for my breakfast in the car, leftover black bean quinoa for lunch and greek yogurt with baked apples for a snack.
The most important thing: I locate my car keys and place them by my work bag.
9:00– Sit down with a cup of sleepy time tea and work on blog stuff, ice my knee one more time, and pet the dogs for a little while. I assure Lily I’m not mad at her even though today I spent $75 on one bag of her food and carried her around our apartment complex like an idiot twice.
I bet Beamer thinks he has a one up on Lily after today.
10:00pm– Set my alarm for 5am. Tell K I love him <3 Goodnight.
