Hey there! How are ya today?
Honestly, I’m kind of dragging this morning. I got up reallllllly early (4am) yesterday to make it to the gym for a swim before work. I really like going to the Y in the morning…. it’s not crowded, everyone is really friendly and it’s a good chance to clear my head for the day ahead. Too bad that it has to be such an early morning to make it work. I’m exhausted by the time I get home from work and find that it’s hard to catch up on sleep. This morning might require an extra cup of coffee.
Speaking of lack of sleep… I just got some new under-eye concealer and lots of other new makeup goodies I wanted to share with you!
So I went to Sephora last week and asked for some help picking out new face makeup. I’m not sure why, but my skin has been pretty oily lately and my previous makeup regimen is not cutting it right now. Here’s what I ended up purchasing:
Tarte BB Cream
I actually tried a sample of this BB cream when it first came out and absolutely loved it. It really evens out my skin even though it’s pretty light. I just didn’t see the point of a BB cream when I was already using moisturizer and wearing foundation. However, the sales associate at Sephora told me he thought a BB cream might help out with the oil issue I’m having, and this one functions as a great primer.
Tarte Amazonian Clay Powder Foundation
I’m a fan of powder foundation but I can’t even wear my favorite one (Make-Up Forever’s pressed powder foundation) because it has made my face so oily. But I wore this Tart foundation over the BB cream for a full day before purchasing them and the BB/powder foundation combo really created a great matte look on my skin. I like that it gives more of a full coverage look even though it’s a powder. I’m liking it so far!!
Urban Decay De-Slick
I’ve never used a setting spray before but the sales associate used it on my face and I had no oil issues for the rest of the day. Urban Decay makes more than 1 kind, and I obviously went with the ‘de-slick’ one. I bought the double pack travel size so I could keep one with my regular makeup and stick one in my gym bag. I also saw that UD makes a De-Slick Mattifying Powder. I probably would have purchased that instead had I been using a liquid foundation. The spray seemed better with a powder foundation.
Benefit Erase Paste
AKA the holy grail of under-eye concealers!
I first bought this concealer several years ago for some better coverage for my under-eye circles. I’m not sure if it’s genetics, allergies, or something else, but I have *awful* circles and have had to play around with lots of different concealers before finding one that really covers them. I hated Erase Paste at first because I felt like it didn’t really ‘set’ on my skin and it was too creamy to use with a brush. I realized recently that I wasn’t applying it correctly.
I now pat it under my eyes using my ring finger and set it using a finishing powder (I use MakeUp Forever’s HD Microfinish Powder). Special thanks to YouTube videos for helping a sister out This method neutralizes dark circles and creates the perfect base for a brighter concealer!
Lotsa Free Samples
Confession: I like to order things from Sephora online these days. I try things out in the store, wear them outside in the daylight to see how they look, and then order them online if I end up liking them. And I also like all of the free samples you get. I don’t do this with everything but I almost always do it with foundations, concealers, blushes and bronzers. Wearing things for a full day first has saved me lots of trips to the store for returns because sometimes makeup looks completely different when you’re not in the store lighting.
So anyway, back to the free samples… if I have an order that is over $50 (free shipping!) then I will split it up into 2 orders so I can get double the samples. Is this unethical? I hope not.
Here’s what I got this time:
I am completely loving this Tarte Lights, Camera Lashes mascara and will be purchasing the full size in the near future. It may be the most favorite mascara I’ve ever worn. It’s easy to apply and gives a nice, full look.
I haven’t been completely impressed with the Benefit Fake Up concealer. It just kind of…. weird. And greasy. I’m not a fan.
And then I got a bunch of little samples that I have yet to try out!
You know what would be amazing? If I could go one a shopping spree to Sephora. Just sayin’
I’m off to work but before I hop off of here, I have to tell you about something I can’t believe I did yesterday…. I completely missed my physical therapy appointment! It was at 1pm and I thought it was at 2. I showed up at 1:45 and they told me I had missed it. I realized I had written the wrong time down in my planner. I was so embarrassed! I also felt bad that I had wasted one of their appointment times. I don’t have another appointment until next week, so now I’m frustrated with myself. I know these things happen but still.
Well, on that note, time to get to work! I’m working half a day at the hospital and then going to an educational session about physical examining patients to determine if they are malnourished. I’m excited to meet up with some fellow RDs Have a great day!!
