Hey guys!
I’m a little late getting this post up today. On the one hand, I hate that I may have missed some morning readers but on the other hand, I kinda like blogging in real time instead of scheduling posts in advance.
Today has been completely gorgeous and I just got back from a 4 mile walk on the greenway. I’m pushing 14,000 steps on my FitBit, too. #winning
Okay, so moving along… I’m linking up today with Peas and Crayons for a What I Ate Wednesday post of yesterday’s meals. Enjoy!
Breakfast
I had the day off and was originally supposed to meet my friend for breakfast. But then our plans changed and I ended up having the morning to myself. I had an appointment later in the afternoon so I thought it would be fun to go out to lunch solo, so I opted for a smaller, simple breakfast.
1 egg and 1/2 avocado (that was on its last leg, by the way)
With a side of coffee
Snack
I have family coming in town this weekend so I ended up deep cleaning my apartment that morning… washing sheets, scrubbing bathtubs, cleaning the kitchen, etc. Heck, even the dogs got a bath. Before I knew it, it was 12pm and I realized I was hardly going to make it to my appointment, let alone be able to go out to lunch beforehand.
I ended up grabbing a protein bar on my way out the door, originally purchased from Aldi.
I think this is a perfect example of why it’s a good idea to have some snacks like this on hand. I don’t like to eat processed snack bars all the time, but they fill the void when you’re short on time. With 170 calories and 10g of protein, I knew this would hold me over until lunch.
Lunch
After my appointment, I ventured to Fresh Market to browse their candy aisle healthy foods. I may or may not have ended up with those gummy raspberries that I’m obsessed with. At first I thought a salad sounded good, but then I saw some turkey chili on their hot bar and I knew that would hit the spot on a cold and dreary day.
Dinner
I went with a huge baked potato for dinner, topped with pork roast and greek yogurt on the side. The pork roast was from some leftovers, and its au jus sauce was great on top of the potato.
I also had a glass of milk on the side (not pictured)
Thoughts for the day: I’m kind of meh about this day. Some colorful veggies and another serving of fruit would have been ideal but I guess it also could have been a lot worse. At first this didn’t seem like a lot of food but then when I plugged everything into MyFitnessPal, it ended up being 1725 kcal… so please don’t leave me comments about how I don’t eat enough (yes, I’ve gotten those in the past and then feel like I have to count up all of the calories)
Hope you have a great evening!
Questions:
Do you ever go out to lunch by yourself?
Anyone count calories?
Anyone else get not-so-nice comments about their meals on WIAW posts??
I’m sorry you’re getting comments like that occasionally, it’s total BS and negative energy you don’t need. Do what makes you happy and healthy Sam and don’t stress it <3 I'm here for you! xoxo
Haha, thanks Jenn! I think it is easy to forget quality over quantity when it comes to looking at pictures of meals. You can’t really gauge the nutrient content of a meal unless you know the serving sizes and ingredients of things. Like when I make a salad, I use a homemade dressing with EVOO that’s 250kcal per serving. But you can’t really tell that over a computer screen.
I take myself out to a nice lunch at least one day a week. It’s my escape time from work and a nice reward for working hard, haha.
I really like the idea of topping a potato and making that into dinner. I am going to try that!
So annoying that you have gotten negative comments on food posts. I have a client in the health and wellness industry — whenever the RD on staff writes a nutrition based article about a specific food item it always ends up being the most controversial topic of the week. The general type of negative comment she receives is, “this is stupid, do your research.” She’s like, “yeah, see those cited sources? That usually indicates research!” :D My favorite other type of comment is that the American Heart Association is not a credible source and they are trying to kill us! #cool.
Way to go on the FitBit! I get really giddy and excited when I get over 15,000 steps on mine, which surprisingly can happen a lot when I’m walking all around NYC. hAHAHAHA love that about the “candy aisle”.
I would love it if I lived in a walkable area! I walked everywhere when I was in college… I wonder now how many steps I was taking :)
I loooove turkey chili! Have you tried Panera’s? It is my favorite ever.
I think people question the quantity you eat because they look to you as a source of validation for what they are eating, because of your professional education. Yet, many people fear more calorie dense foods that RDs find perfectly healthy! I.e. white potatoes.
I have not tried the panera turkey chili. I always get the broccoli and cheddar soup. Maybe it’s time for me to branch out! I do agree that people tend to shy away from calorie-dense foods… I just try to fit everything in that I want to eat and try to hit all of my food groups.
I enjoy going out to lunch by myself :) it gives me time to breathe during the work day and catch up on blog stuff!
I love going to a coffee shop to catch up on blog stuff. It’s a lot easier for me to drink a cup of coffee and sit on the computer as it is for me to eat and sit on the computer. I’m not good at multi tasking :)
