Every Friday since my knee surgery, I’ve posted a weekly update about what’s new and how I’ve been doing. I’ve enjoyed sharing my progress with everyone (and having a record of everything to look back on)!
I think this is going to be my last official ‘weekly update’ now that it has been 6 weeks since my procedure. I’m past all of the exciting stuff, like ditching crutches and starting physical therapy, and many of my posts are starting to feel a bit redundant.
Of course, I will still be giving updates here and there about how things are going. I have a follow-up with my doctor next week so I will be sure to share how that goes.
In the meantime, I will try to make this last update a good one
So today I will be finishing my 4th week of physical therapy, which means that I’m halfway through- woo hoo!
I’ve been doing some of the same things each appointment that I’ve already shared- cycle on the bike for 10 minutes, stretch hamstrings, work quads, etc.
Two new exercises that I’ve worked on recently are incorporating the use of bands (basically kicking my leg in different directions while my ankle is looped inside a band) and also using a balance board. The balance board has been fun- I do mini squats on it, rock back and forth and also balance on it while tossing a ball onto a trampoline!
I wanted to get a pic of me attempting to do all of this but I don’t want my physical therapist to think I’m weird!
The biggest thing I’m dealing with is swelling (which results in pain), especially now that I’m back at work. I definitely wish I had taken another ~2 weeks off because I think I really set myself back in my recovery by being up on my feet too early.
My swelling comes and goes depending on my work schedule. Some days I feel great and I hardly have any swelling, and other days things are just rough. I guess it is what it is. I do take my cold therapy unit to work every day and ice/elevate my knee as much as I can.
Here’s a comparison of my swelling throughout the weeks!
Today (Day 41):
Best thoughts from the week: the cafeteria staff at my work has been so sweet about filling up my ice machine every morning. I always trudge in there bright and early, and they are so kind and friendly.
Worst part of the week: Ugh, still having that same knee pain. It’s killing me. I wonder if it will ever go away or if I’m going to have to live with this for the rest of my life.
Sooooo I guess that’s it! Thanks for following along!
