Howdy friends!
I hope your week is going well. I can’t believe it’s already October. 2015 is flying by! I typically do a “things loved in …..” post around this time, but I realized that 3/4 of what I was going to share had to do with make-up. And then I thought it would be fun to just do a make-up post. So instead I thought I would just check in with some updates!
Something non make-up related that I loved in September
Downy fabric softener. Okay, I have always used off-brand fabric softener but Downy is the key to making clothes smell pretty! I feel like a dork that I’m almost 30 and just now realized this.
Foot
I have officially been in the boot for 2.5 weeks. I have a follow-up in 1.5 weeks and honestly, I don’t see myself coming out of it then. The pain all around the bottom of my foot has definitely decreased but I’m still having pain in 2 specific places in my foot. Not sure if he’s going to want to do further imaging studies or what, but I’m bummed.
The boot hasn’t been that bad, but taking it on and off to drive is kind of tiring. And of course it’s a bummer to be limited in my physical activity.
I am mostly compliant with the boot except at night. I take it off in my sleep. This morning I realized I didn’t have it on, and I found the boot under my covers. I’m hoping this isn’t too detrimental to my recovery since I’m not up walking around.
Fitness
It’s amazing how much your fitness level can change in a short amount of time. Or at least feel like it has changed. I have noticed a difference in muscle tone and just the way I feel since I’ve been dealing with this foot.
Workouts
Despite being held back a bit, I have tried to continue with some level of physical activity. It’s not the same but I guess you work with what you’ve got, right? I go to the pool and swim laps with just my arms (use a pull buoy to drag my legs) and I’m still doing weights at the gym. I started out by only doing arm weights, but I realized this week that there are still a lot of leg machines I can do while my foot is immobilized.
I feel a lot better about myself if I’m able to fit in a workout. Getting exercise used to be all about how much I weighed and my physical appearance…. not anymore. Exercise is all about how I feel, stress relief, and giving myself a mental break. I’m glad I can still find something to do even though I’m pretty limited.
It is completely killing me to not be able to ride my bike right now. The weather is amazing. Such is life. If you are enjoying this beautiful weather then please run/ride a mile or two for me.
Food
I’m trying to focus on my nutrition more than ever since I am really limited in the physical activity department. My focus is staying hydrated and eating lots of fruit and vegetable servings. Yesterday I made this bombdotcom pasta dish in my slow cooker. I basically just used my usual backed pasta recipe and cooked it on high for 1.5 hours. There is some crazy form of satisfaction I get from not having to stand over a stove while things boil. #slowcookerforlife. Just as a reminder, I like to ‘water down’ my pasta dish by adding lots of veggies.
YouTube Channel
I would really love your support by subscribing to my YouTube Channel. I am hoping to launch it soon. I will be posting short videos answering questions from readers. A lot of what I’m talking about are about controversial nutrition-related topics! Can’t wait to get my channel rolling. You can subscribe here (please don’t laugh at the video I posted earlier this year!) haha…
PLEASE PRAY FOR ME
because I am going to the dentist today for the first time in 4.5 years. I have an *extreme* fear of the dentist and just thinking about going there makes me want to break out in hives.
I have not had much of a chance to catch up on blogs this week so I would love to hear what is going on with you. Anything interesting? Cooking anything new? What have you had going on in the physical activity department?
Oh wow, I never thought about making pasta in the slow cooker! That meal looks really delicious.
I just subscribed to your YouTube channel, looking forward to seeing your videos!
Good luck at the dentist! Hopefully everything goes smoothly for you!
Thanks girl! Always go to the dentist every 6 months, lol. I would only make baked pasta in the slow cooker with meat that has already been cooked. The noodles cook fairly quickly and you don’t want them to get too mushy! P.S. I’m loving your vlogs!
I always feel so accomplished when I use the slow cooker, except its absolutely the easiest thing in the world to use!!
Me too! I love that “cooking” with it really just involves dumping things in the cooker.
I hope you survived the dentist! <3
I always book my appointments before I leave, otherwise I'd never go!
I did… barely :) I did go ahead and make my 6-month cleaning for that very same reason, haha.
Totally want to try that pasta dish – looks absolutely incredible! Making me hungry for lunch already!!
It was super easy!
Good luck and godspeed at the dentist. The longest I’ve gone was 2 years. I’m working on nearly a year, now! Make sure when you do come out of the boot that you work on that foot strength, I lost so much of it!
Things didn’t turn out so well at the dentist, lol. Please send positive vibes my way.
I have no idea when I’ll be out of this boot. My foot feels exactly the same as it did :(
