Hey Friends!
I have been adulting so hard these past few weeks. I think I need an extra long nap and/or a giant class of wine!
As you know, my car was stolen last month. It ended up being involved in a high-speed police chase and was totaled. The whole scenario has been a long ordeal. First I had to report the car stolen. I found out it was totaled a few days later. I let the police do their thing, then went and cleaned out my car and then turned it over to insurance. Then I had to wait to get paid for my car, and thennnnn I could start the process of buying a new car.
I realize that a car is just a material possession but it was really upsetting to see how someone else (a teenager no less) vandalized the inside of my car. There were cigarette butts, ashes and trash all over the car. They put out their cigarettes in my seats. All of my belongings were stolen out of the car. I’m not going to lie… I felt violated.
My insurance only covers a rental for 30 days so I knew I was going to have to buckle down and pick out a new car soon. I had so many decisions to make but I ultimately decided to treat myself to a brand new car. I picked it up last night. I am super paranoid about posting personal information on this blog right now, but just trust me that I love it so far!
While the situation was less than ideal, in a way I feel like this is all part of a fresh start for me. I picked out my old car because there was enough room in the back seat for a car seat, and I definitely would have gotten a smaller car if it was not for that… it sucked to sometimes think about that after I got divorced. I had been thinking lately that it would probably be good for me to trade it in so I guess it all worked out in the end. I really, really wanted to do everything related to getting my new car by myself and I did just that… researching, test-driving and negotiations. Okay, so I might have called my mom crying a few times but that doesn’t count
Everything with the car theft and accident is pretty much settled now. I just started a claim for the things that were stolen out of my car, but that is a special unicorn that I have yet to delve into. Good times with all of these life experiences!!
What have you been up to lately?
Do you like to purchase new or used cars? I have always been a used car girl… this is my first new one!
So excited for you! Glad I got a sneak peek at the new car on Snapchat, haha. CONGRATS! You’ve turned a bad situation into a positive one which is really all we can do!
That stinks that you still have to deal with the claim for your possessions but you’ve gotten the big part out of the way!
Both cars I’ve had were brand new. My first car my parents got me as a high school graduation gift, but my second car I bought on my own. Once I paid it off I decided to keep it forever, haha! It was the first big thing I bought on my own as an adult and I’m proud of it :D
I am just now getting the hang of snapchat!!
I can’t even imagine how hard it would be to have someone destroy something of mine like that. Claiming your possessions sounds like an awful experience. You definitely deserve that glass of wine and a nice long nap!
I’m glad to hear you are loving your new car! I’ve only bought used before, but I would like to go new with my next one.
For the types of cars I was looking at, it seemed like they held their values better so it made financial sense for me. I previously had a jeep and Hyundai and both of those were much cheaper to buy newly used.
I would totally feel violated too. What an ordeal but I’m glad you got a new car and a fresh start.
Thanks, Jen :)
So sorry to hear about this fiasco. Karma will be out for that teenager. As for you, glad you got a new “start” and a new car you like!
