Happy Monday!
I hope your week is off to a great start. This weekend was fun but H-O-T in Charlotte and I can’t decide if I like it or not!
Thursday
I will start out my weekend recap with telling you about my first bike real bike crash in downtown Charlotte!
Micah and I had planned to go to the Whitewater Center to do their open water swim, but we both had been sick the past few days and decided getting in a lake might not be the best idea. So I decided to head out on a ride instead.
With the excitement of my new mountain bike, I actually hadn’t ridden my road bike in a little while. I am also used to quiet country roads where I used to live. Well, I took it out where I live now and learned the definition of eating pavement after about 2 miles. I came to an intersection where cars were coming in both directions, and I couldn’t get clipped out of my right pedal in time. My hip took most of the impact but I tried to catch myself with my right arm.
There were lots of people around who helped me up, which was not embarrassing at all. A nice elderly man was sitting on his front porch and even offered me a glass of water
I am okay for the most part, just a sore hand, and now I can say that I have officially wrecked on my road bike!
The only other physical thing I did this weekend was go for a run/walk. I’ve been trying to do a walk/run 5k type deal to avoid developing shin splints and other issues as I ease back into running (my weakest sport ever). I ran for 12 minutes total and walked the rest. Gotta start somewhere!
Taste of Charlotte
On Saturday, B and I ventured down to the Taste of Charlotte, which is a weekend-long event where you can sample menu items and at different restaurants in Charlotte.
So just to be completely honest, I was kind of disappointed in the event. The last time I went was in 2014 and I remembered there being a lot more local places. I felt like there were too many booths giving away free stuff (like Mentos, Gold Bond Powder, etc.) and lots of chain restaurants. When I think of dining in Charlotte, places like Hooters and Salsaritas are not the first places that come to mind.
Nevertheless, it is always nice to get outside, enjoy the city and eat some food. We had some lobster mac and cheese, indian food, and a pork sandwich.
Micah had never been to Amelie’s before so I picked him up a salted caramel brownie on my way home. Just trying to secure my spot as the best roommate ever.
Shopping
Yesterday was mostly filled with shopping. I really needed a new pair of running shorts because embarrassingly, my current pairs of shorts are too small. I will wear pretty much any type of running top but I am really peculiar about my shorts and only wear Lululemon Run Times Shorts.
I decided to switch things up and got a pair of the Tracker Short IVs instead. I was close to getting a pair of hot pink ones but kept it boring and stuck with black instead!
I also didn’t mention this but I recently cut a ton of my hair off because it was so dry and damaged at the ends. I talked to my stylist about it and decided not to get anymore highlights right now. She told me that my hair was just really needing moisture. I have been using drugstore shampoo for the past few months and I think that is causing the problem. I went to Ulta to scope things out, but it is hard for me to commit to buying a pricey shampoo and conditioner without testing it out first.
I ended up buying samples of this Joico Moisture product. I will try them out and report back to you!
Eats
B and I went to Ikea yesterday (got a new nightstand…. pray for me putting that thing together!) and we ate at Le Kebab.
I got an gyro and baklava. Both were amazing. Please go to this restaurant if you are looking for some good middle eastern eats in Charlotte!
This week- Tri Training
This is my first real week of training for the triathlon. I’m following a 13-week plan. I am currently in the market for a bike trainer after my crash last week and I also foresee lots of time at the gym since it’s so hot outside.
What, really? I am surprised that you don’t think of Hooters when it comes to dining out in a big city. I know they’re always my go-to for a night out where I want really good food ;)
I’m sorry you took a spill in a crowded area on your bike, but at least everyone was really friendly and helpful!
Ugh- that’s kind of my worse fear on my road bike- especially riding in the city- glad you are okay though. I’ve always wanted to buy a trainer but I don’t really have room for it unless I put it in our unfinished semi creepy basement- let me know which one you get and how you like it!
I’m going to put it in my tiny bedroom, lol. We’ll see how it works out.
