Hey guys- hope you had a good weekend! I feel like I don’t even know what day it is today because I was on call on Saturday and worked on Sunday. It feels like Wednesday or Thursday to me! I think I am growing tired of working weekends but I have off on Friday and a fun weekend planned to make up for it
Bike Stuff
The highlight of my weekend was taking care of a few bike-related things. My bike got a bit messed up during my fall last week so I took it to the shop to have it looked at. They called me yesterday and said they had to make adjustments to my rear derailleur and one of my shifters. I’m hoping to picking it up today or tomorrow!
I’m not going to lie… the fall really scared me and I’m still nursing a sore hand. I am already hesitant to ride around cars anyway so this has just made it worse. So I decided I’m going to remove my clipless pedals and mostly ride on a trainer, at least temporarily. I had never been scared of clipping in prior to this fall, but being in a situation where I felt like I was lucky that I did not get seriously injured or hit by a car just makes me feel a little uneasy.
New Trainer
I posted an ad on the Charlotte Bike Market looking for a trainer and several people responded with trainers right away. I’ve always heard you should buy them used because they are plentiful. I ended up buying a Kinetic 2.0 Fluid Trainer from someone for a fraction of what it would have cost new.
It’s kind of big for apartment living but it actually folds up fairly nicely for storage. I can’t wait to get it set up to use. I’m trying to decide if I want to get a trainer tire or just get an entirely different (old) wheel to use. Would love your thoughts!
Since my hand (and wrist, arm, and elbow really) has still been sore, I missed out on a lot of swimming and cycling this past week. I have gone to the weight room and done some leg weights a few times and I’m still working on running. I’ve been pretty open about how I really struggle with running. Yesterday I walked a mile, ran a mile and then walked another 0.5 mile. It’s weird to me to feel very strong in swimming and cycling and completely horrible in running. I’m still wondering how I will run a 5k after swimming and then cycling but I suppose that’s what a training plan is for. The weather has also been really nice in Charlotte so it was the perfect weekend for being outside.
If my hand doesn’t get better in the next few days, I’m going to hit the pool with a kick board and get things rolling with my trainer. This way I can still be conservative and not lose out on a ton of training.
I’ve already decided that I’m only allowed to watch Orange is the New Black if I’m on my trainer!
Ikea Tarva Night Stand
In other news, I started staining the top of my night stand this weekend. I actually have finished the priming, 2 coats of stain and 2 coats of the polyurethane sealant. Just 1 more coat and then I can paint the rest! I can’t decide but I think I’m going to paint it white.
Lily
Lily said she is officially my triathlon coach when I’m on the trainer in my bedroom. She will observe me from her blanket.
This is what she did to her rooster when he didn’t follow instructions.
She’s a tough coach. I might be in for it.
Did you do anything fun this weekend?
Have you started watching the newest season of OITNB? I read a spoiler online and now I’m so mad at myself!
OMG I’m really scared for you. Lily is so tough! ;)
The night stand looks great already! I love projects like that!
I mostly hate putting the ikea furniture together but since my roommate did that part, I’m loving this project :)
