Hey guys! I’m popping in to say hello and let you know how last week of tri training went. I can sum things up by saying I didn’t end on the best note… please see my latest purchase:
I’ve come down with some sort of sinus thingy and I’m having trouble kicking it I’ve been down for 3 days and counting. I’m hoping I can start feeling better soon because I have not gotten any exercise at all these past few days.
Here’s how last week went with my training…
Monday
Rest
Tuesday
Brick: 60 min cycle + 30 min run . Didn’t die. #winning
Wednesday
I was supposed to swim this day but couldn’t because of a thunderstorm! And I make it a point not to cycle or run on back-to-back days so I ended up chilling at home this day.
Thursday
For a nice change of pace, I went for a 40 minute run with B around his neighborhood. This was the first time ever that I have run with someone! B used to be a runner and has run in a half marathon before. Even though he hasn’t run in a while, he was still way faster than I was He slowed things down and it was nice to spend some active time with him.
We polished off the night by ordering Greek food! (greek salad with chicken + rosemary rice + a lamb dish)
Friday
Again, another swim cancelled because of a thunder storm. I knew I wasn’t going to have time for a long ride after work so the day was kind of a bust.
Saturday
My longest ride yet! 90 minutes on the trainer. I’m hoping this will be my last trainer ride and that I can get out on the open road next week.
Coach Lily… always watchin’ out for me
Sunday
I had planned a 1,000m swim + 50 minute run but woke up in the middle of the night with a sore throat and then felt horrible for the rest of the day.
Soooooo basically out of 7 days, I only get in 3 workouts. And so far for this week I have not worked out at all. I have always heard with being sick that if your symptoms are from the neck up that it’s okay to exercise, but if they involve anything below the neck that it’s better to rest. I’m dealing with a cough and congestion so I am deciding to play it safe.
At this point, I’m starting to get really worried about the swim. I think I’ve only swam 4-5 times since I got my cast off. I think I’m an okay swimmer but I’m not conditioned at all. #jesustakethewheel
Do you work out when you’re sick?
Does weather ever play a factor in your workouts?
What do you listen to to occupy yourself during a workout: podcast, music, tv, nada?
I’m so sorry you’re not feeling well! You still have time though, and the workouts you were able to complete were quality, so best to get some rest while you can.
Funny you brought up swimming in a storm. I have always let that dictate my swims but just last week I swam in one for the first time. My husband convinced me it was fine, and the pool was still open, so I did it. Other than that it takes a lot for weather to cancel my workouts! I’ve run and ridden in some pretty crazy conditions.
I don’t really listen to anything anymore! If I’m on the trainer I stream spin classes but for the most part I try to practice having nothing since I can’t have anything in a race.
That’s a good thought to practice having nothing for a race. I swim at the Y and they close the pool for 30 minutes after thunder :(
My old Y used to close during storms too so I have been assuming all pools close during them. But I went to my new one during a thunderstorm to swim and asked the front desk just to make sure the pool wasn’t closed, and they were like oh, nope!
Awesome 90 minute ride! Thunderstorms have been interrupting my swim schedule lately too. Boo!
My body does not like to workout when I’m sick. I know some people push through, but I’m much better off resting until I feel better.
Ugh mine either. I have a cough/breathing thing going on now so working out(ESP swimming) probably would have been impossible!
