Hi friends! Happy Friday! I hope you have had a lovely week. Mine was a bit hectic, so much so that I literally had to scroll back through photos on my phone to be able to write this recap. I would insert the laughing/crying emoji here if I could. But let’s hit the highlights!
We are going out of town this weekend so we opted for a pretty low-key Easter weekend at home this year. We spent Saturday shopping for home stuff, and I ended up purchasing some outdoor pillows for chairs on the front porch as well as a new pitcher to use as a centerpiece of the kitchen island.
The main purpose of the shopping trip was to find a set of matching lamps for our bedroom nightstands, but we had no luck. I found this lamp at Marshall’s that would go pretty well with everything but they only had one. Womp Womp.
We thought about going to church on Easter Sunday but ultimately didn’t want to be “those people” (the ChrEasters…. Christmas + Easter churchgoers). Sadly, we both worked for most of the day before reconvening for dinner at Vivace!
We are both obsessed with the brussels sprouts.
I got a salmon Mediterranean dish. It was a bit interesting because the salmon was obviously hot and the vegetables underneath were cold. But at the end of the day, I got to eat salmon and olives and that is all that matters.
Another positive from this week- B not only filed my taxes for me this week but he also created a pretty sweet Profit & Loss statement for G & G. Suddenly, I am feeling extra grateful to be dating a CPA!
Okay, so does anyone here watch Scandal? It’s my favorite TV guilty pleasure and pretty much the only show that I watch live each week. I personally don’t love the story line… I kind of want the old Scandal back!
I used to not watch cable TV when I lived on my own but now that I’ve moved in with B, I couldn’t stand the temptation of his digital cable and DVR. Now Bravo TV has sucked me back in. Guys, all of my favorite TV shows are on at the same time- Real Housewives of ATL, NYC, Vanderpump Rules, Southern Charm…. I’m in heaven. And heavily utilizing the DVR because I don’t have time to watch that much TV in the evenings!
Nutrition in the News
Here a few things that came across my email recently that I thought you might like:
10 Ways to Save Time and Money at the Grocery Store: Okay, so most of this stuff is common advice (“don’t go to the store when you’re hungry”) but there were a few things that are good reminders. It’s completely OK to purchase frozen fruits and vegetables. They are cheaper and just as nutritious. Just watch the ingredient label and avoid added ingredients- like sometimes frozen fruit has added sugar. Also, I liked the tip about talking to the butcher for smaller packages. I find this to be a great way to control portion sizes and avoid food waste if I’m just cooking for myself or 1 other person.
7 diet and fitness apps for you: I have really wanted to try Class Pass!
Info on upcoming nutrition label changes: If you haven’t heard, the USDA is requiring updates to nutrition labels to make them easier to read. I am very much looking forward to this because I think the current ones can be kind of misleading unless you don’t know what you’re looking for. This article is great because it includes a nice photo of the new label, which clearly lists different columns for info for 1 serving vs. entire package.
I hope you guys have a great week. We are traveling to Virginia for the wedding of a good family friend. I’m excited to go back to my hometown and hang out with the fam for a weekend!
What are you up to this weekend?
