Hey friends! I had this post ready for you yesterday but unfortunately my laptop is dying a slow and painful death. It’s a PC and I’ve had it for 4-5 years, so I think this is par for the course. I’ve been advised by many that I need a Mac but I love Windows Livewriter for my blog. If you blog in WordPress and use another program to edit and publish your posts on a Mac then I would love to hear about that.
But anyway, I hope you are having a great weekend so far! B and I are going to take a bike ride down the greenway and get coffee this morning. I’ve been over the gym these past few weeks so I’m looking for activities that I enjoy instead!
Now that B and I have had a chance to soak in the happiness of our engagement, we have started to dip our toes into wedding planning. I thought I would be fun to share updated along the way
We’ve been talking about getting married for a while now so there have been several discussions this year about how we would want to celebrate our marriage with our friends and families. If you’re one of my OGs here then you know that I have been married before, so I’ve already had the experience of wearing the big bridal gown, having a hotel reception and the whole shebang. When B and I first started talking about getting married and the idea of a wedding came up, I was hyper-focused on the idea that I have already had a wedding and people would judge me if I did anything other than elope or go to the courthouse.
But now that we are actually engaged and we’ve had a chance to soak in all of this happiness with our friends and family, I’ve realized that it’s 2017 and mostly anything goes with weddings these days. I also think there is so much focus on the bride when it comes to a wedding and the groom ends up being an afterthought. I feel like what B wants is also important, so together we are trying to plan a day that is special and feels very “us”. Truthfully, I basically just told him that I would be happy with whatever type of celebration he wanted and we’ve kind of gone from there.
There’s a lot that goes into wedding planning, and we wanted to make things as least stressful as possible. So we decided to pick a few things that are important to us, and try to be “go with the flow” with everything else.
We both agreed that the #1 most important thing is that we can spend time with the people who we are closest to together in one place. We each have our groups of near/dear/lifelong friends and we couldn’t imagine planning something without them. We were thinking about having a Friday wedding at first but ultimately changed our minds and went with a Saturday to make it easier for our out of town friends and family.
Aside from that, B really wants to have a nice open bar, which completely fits if you know him in real life. The man loves a nice gin. For me, I would like to have a good photographer. I really love photos, and I know we will cherish pictures with our families forever.
The Timing & Venue
Neither of us is thinking that a traditional wedding really fits for us. We’d rather have it just feel like a big party. After looking at a lot of wedding venues in Charlotte, we felt like nothing was really our style… so we asked our favorite restaurant if we could get married there instead. They said yes! Charlotte venues are crazy busy so there were only 2 days that were available around the time we were thinking this spring. We sent a blast message to our family and friends, and one of the dates worked for everyone. We just signed a contract this week and we are both really happy and excited!!!
I still haven’t decided if I want to wear an actual wedding dress or opt for maybe a blush or cream evening gown. B says he has no preference as to what I wear as long as I am still agreeing to marry him this spring I’ve been to 1 bridal store and tried some things on, and I’ve also stopped in a department store in SouthPark and looking into evening gowns. I honestly thought at first that I would absolutely not wear a wedding dress again but shopping has been a different story. I found 3 bridal gowns that I loved and fit me really well, and every evening gown that I liked online looked like a complete disaster on my body. So this one is TBD!
I know there’s a lot of other stuff that goes into planning the day but so far we feel like finding a venue was the biggest thing to check off of the list right now. I read some wedding timeline online and apparently we’re 3 months behind on everything else
Hope you guys have a nice weekend!!
Do you have anything fun planned this weekend?
